Dock Dung

Volunteers needed

To help collect “dock dung”!

As part of the Saltash Art Trail, local artist Chrissy Wallis has been commissioned to make a mosaic seat for Fore Street,  using dock dung collected from around Saltash.

"Dock Dung” is the name given to all those pieces of broken pottery to be
found on the beaches and foreshores‐ so called because it was mixed up with the “dung” brought up‐river in barges &
used to fertilise the fields. The dung was paid for by weight, so any bits of household rubbish which couldn’t be used‐
broken crockery, pipes, buttons, buckles, bottles‐ was simply sifted out & thrown into the river.

We  would like as many volunteers as possible to collect Dock Dung from the foreshores & beaches around Saltash, and either bring it to the Ashtorre Rock Community centre on the date below,

Or contact Jo Baskott on 07730 937846 to arrange collection.
There will be a talk  at Ashtorre Rock Community Centre

On Saturday 14th March 6.30pm  8pm
Free entry  refreshments provided.
Please bring your bags of Dock Dung with you!
